Top Fiction BooksTop Fiction Authors And Their NovelsWelcome to my best Top Fiction Books: for the best fiction books to read for fun and relaxation This is a personal perspective about my favourite authors of the best fiction today…… those whom I consider above average, yet accessible to a wide variety of readers. “Readingbooks-4fun.com” is a subjective list of what I consider the best authors and novels that I feel justify the title top fiction books to read for fun and relaxation. It is by no means complete, and I add to it as time goes by or I discover another novel/author I consider a “must read”. (see my criteria below) Included are crime thrillers, others are historical fiction, adventure, fantasy novels – chosen for the style, subject matter, writing skills or simply narrative pleasure. This is about top fiction books as entertainment …….. something to do when you are bored … when the TV is blah ….. to wind down before you go to sleep …….. for when you have to sit in a plane or train for hours or are waiting for the doctor to FINALLY see you ……. !!!! This is about reading books - good fiction novels – but not an Academic nor research site about English Literature Reading Books - 4fun …… something to relax you ……. something to hold your interest ….. to pass the time ….. something for a rainy day or a summer holiday……… or when you simply want to ‘veg’ out and put aside the day’s stress. I can truly say I am never bored – because I always have a good suspense, historical fiction or fantasy book to read – be it Patricia Cornwell, Reginald Hill, Mo Hayder, Margaret Weis, JK Rowling, Raymond E Feist, Ken Follett, Jeffrey Archer and many others. Shop Wireless - All Verizon Phones Starting at a Penny My Criteria For A Good 'Read' Characterization – my interest in and the likeability of the main protagonist/s.... factual or fictional ... Cleopatra or Harry Potter; Ender Wiggins or Alexander the Great; Harry Bosch or Matthew Scudder. Narrative style – the best fiction authors keep you turning the pages and it’s simply a sheer joy to read their prose and style….. e.g. James Lee Burke, Michael Connelly, Lawrence Block. Sometimes the period – I’m a sucker for anything written set in ancient Egypt, ancient Greece or ancient Rome and the Middle Ages for medieval England (e.g Sharon Penman’s books). Genre/Style – thrillers, crime/police procedurals, sci-fi and fantasy – e.g. I don’t like so-called ‘romances” – yet I value a good love story that is embedded in an overall story – be it the relationship of the main character with his/her spouse or boy/girlfriend. This often illuminates more about the main character adding to our interest in him/her and thus the book as a whole. One caveat – this is mainly about top fiction books by currently living authors – although some golden oldies have crept in. (I wrote most of this page in 2008 - sadly Robert B Parker has since died) Treat this site of top fiction books like a library – browse through the shelves (i.e. the menu) and see what you like … there is even a spot for you to contribute your ideas or comments too. A caveat – just because some writers are not included doesn’t mean that they don’t match up to those I have included – it’s simply that I haven’t yet added them in or I haven’t followed them. Just click a menu tab and off you go …. to the wonderful world of some great books and authors of top fiction books. And, then indulge in a ‘good read’……… reading for relaxation and pleasure.
