Tom Deitz and Terry Brooks

The Golden Tracks of The Sidhe

The Legends of Shannara

Both Tom Deitz and Terry Brooks have a focus on Elves/Fairies in their fantasy novels; but in oh so completely different ways - it all goes to show that the world of fantasy has almost limitless possibilities for entertaining reading.

Like Terry Brooks, Tom Dietz is a Fantasy author with a great imagination. He creates detailed books with a realistic edge and strong sense of wonder.

He has real characters, interesting plots and the contemporary settings set his foray into the Elven world apart - as this exploration of the fantasy world is set in rural Georgia.

There, mysterious golden tracks lead to other worlds, propelling David Sullivan and his friends into fantastic battles with the magical beings called the Sidhe.

These are fantasy novels well worth your time - they are consistently good.

Thirty years ago, fantasy author Terry Brooks made history with his Shannara series by writing the first fantasy novel to make the New York Times bestseller list. This, despite criticisms that his early books were too like "Lord of the Rings", proves he is no mere imitator. In fact, in some ways, I think his fantasy novels are better - he has learned his craft well.

After mankind has sprung from its own ashes after the Great Wars of science destroyed and altered the former world, magic has now replaced science as the means to discover knowledge and acquire power.

At various times, the Shannara family line is called on by the mysterious Druids of Paranor to combat the evil that arises to swallow the Four Lands in darkness.

Terry Brooks fills his novels with real characters, skillful writing, great plots and high adventure. They would be welcome additions to your must read list.
