Best Sci Fi Novels

A Journey Into The Unknown We All Can Take

Sci Fi novels are a genre that most people like in one form or another – well perhaps, if not novels, then certainly through movies like Star Wars; Star Trek; 2001: a Space Odyssey; Close Encounters of a 3rd Kind and so on.

The genre of top science fiction books can be especially rewarding for a bookworm like me or even for a discerning reader who has not yet ventured into this field. It is not all about "to be imagined" futures and adventures – though of course that is one of the basic premises.

Many Sci Fi books often combine skillful writing, rich and nuanced dialogue, intriguing plotting and peopled by marvelous characters. Some of the best science fiction books or science fiction novels are top selling books and even are on high school reading lists.

An Exemplar of this is Orson Scott Card whose sci fi novels including “Ender” and “Tales of Alvin Maker” series make a foray into the “unknown” future both a pleasure to read and stimulating. (Strictly speaking ‘Alvin belongs in the Fantasy section)

From the epic Star Wars style - to a futuristic female "Horatio Hornblower" in Weber's Honor Harrington series - to Margaret Weis's deadly Mag Force team to the the wildy funny, yet action packed books by UK author Simon Greene - there is almost unlimited variation for the bookworm or newbie trying sci fi for the first time.

Getting Kids to Read

J K Rowling and her Harry Potter books spawned a new generation of young readers - regardless of whether you like the genre - or even her stories - she got kids away from the computer games and stuck their noses into a book .... in her case quite a few!

SciFi novels can do the same - give kids something THEY like ... and to read. Some of the best fiction books I read when a kid came from Biggles's author W E John's space yarns - hopelessly outdated now - but they kept me reading then.
